NY Cake Convention – Part I

A few weeks back I attended the New York Cake Convention – a week of everything cake, all the time. To me, it was a little slice of heaven! (no pun intended)

I have so many pictures from the event that I’m going to split this up into two posts.

There was a cake competition in which cake artists from all over the U.S. brought in their cakes to compete. Below are some shots of the designs I liked the most.

Such talent!

Just check out the details on the side of the elephant – amazing

This was hands down my favorite cake. It is a Marie Antoinette design.

The cake base is covered in sugar with snowflake imprints in the sugar. So cute!

Bridal Bliss

We recently did a cookie and cupcake order for a Bridal Shower. I found the wedding gown cookies to be the most fun to decorate since I had carte blanche when it came to the dress design. I was able to channel my inner Vera Wang! The champagne glasses were also cool since we made them a little bit “Mod” with the white bubbles.

It’s worth double clicking on the dresses to see the detailed designs!

What do Art and Dessert have in common?

Urban Sweets!

I was incredibly excited when I got a call to do a dessert bar for an art opening. I love the energy of the people and environment at art galleries.

We kept the design very simple with a light, uncomplicated color palette so as not to compete with the art itself. The flavors though were another story – lemon, pumpkin, grand marnier, and peppermint to name a few!

And here are some pictures of the event itself. I want to thank Beth Dubber for taking amazing shots of the event!

Classic Elegance

First off, I’d like to wish everyone Happy New Year! We have been quite busy with the holidays. On top of our orders, on New Years day my assistant and I flew to New York for a cake convention that we are participating in. We are having a great time meeting new cake artists and exploring everything this field has to offer. But it is crazy cold here! Us L.A. girls definitely are out of our element when it comes to the weather. Follow me on Twitter to see pictures from the show!

We recently made a cupcake tower for a wedding in Palm Springs. The event was traditional and classic. To go with that theme we chose to use silver and white as the color scheme – keeping the look very elegant and understated. The cupcakes were red velvet, vanilla and chocolate. Here are some pictures from the event taken by the very talented Michael Graham Photography. Enjoy!
